ABSTRACT

Conversations are all different. At first glance there is little in common between conversations about babies in a group of new parents and those conversations that occur within the small groups that often gather around open car-bonnets. In the first type of conversation, it seems to be important to be very positive about other people’s babies. In the second type of conversation, at least in our experience, critical comments are fine but it helps if you can show that you know your tappets from your torque wrenches.
