ABSTRACT

The material presented in this chapter represents only a small fraction of the information available in the scientific literature concerning the developmental process of organogenesis. It is hoped that the concepts selected for discussion provide a model framework upon which to build an understanding of the morphogenic events that accompany organogenesis and, in addition, to begin to gain insight into the complex process that directs the morphogenetic process. The production of adventitious apical meristems on conifer cotyledonary tissue is presented in some detail as an example of the organogenic process, followed by a brief discussion of the process of adventitious root initiation.
