ABSTRACT

Plant pathogens belong to very diverse groups and are found in the kingdoms Animalia, Stramenopila (Chromista), Fungi, Prokaryotae, Plantae, and Protozoa. The largest group of plant pathogens is found in the Fungi. This chapter is intended to very superficially acquaint students with the various groups of pathogens and some of the specialized language and terms associated with each of them. A more complete description of the different groups follows in subsequent chapters.
