ABSTRACT

All prokaryotes have cell membranes, cytoplasmic 70S ribosomes, and a nonmembranelimited nuclear region (Figure 6.1). Phytopathogenic prokaryotes have a unique character-the ability to colonize plant tissues. Pathogens increase from a low to a high number in a remarkably short time within a diseased host plant. The essence of pathogenicity is this ability to live and multiply within plant tissues.
