ABSTRACT

Matthew Reeves has worked with communities of African descent in Jamaica and the United States. In this chapter he discusses ways in which descendant communities can be encouraged to become involved in both research and planning activities related to heritage resource management and archaeological inquiry. Familiarity with the ethnography of existing descent communities can also contribute to the formulation of new research questions.
