ABSTRACT

As with most human disease states, there is general agreement that prevention of cancer development is preferable to the treatment of cancer with chemotherapeutic agents. In general, chemotherapy requires treatment of patients with toxic drugs that often result in untoward side effects. Since the beneficial effects of these agents may outweigh adverse reactions, therapeutic use is often tolerated. On the other hand, chemopreventive agents are any and all natural or synthetic compounds that can inhibit, suppress, or reverse the development and progression of cancer.
