ABSTRACT

Computer programs are great at crunching numbers and manipulating data, and clearly this is the reason most people use a computer. Thus far, this book has centered upon having a program perform a specific task, or series of tasks, on a batch of data produced from some process. This process would typically be an assay purchased from a vendor to measure some physical, chemical, or biological property. At some point however, most users would like to utilize a computer program to control a process, not to merely manipulate data.
