Deviant masculinities: representations of neo-fascist youth in eastern Germany

In this chapter, I analyse media constructions of neo-Nazi youths in eastern Germany and argue that hegemonic definitions of masculinity rely on a contrast with hyper-masculinity as much as on a rejection of femininity. I point towards the international as well as intergenerational dimensions of neo-fascism and show that neo-Nazis make claims to masculinity that need to be recognized and deconstructed, if racist and neo-fascist tendencies are to be contested.
