chapter  1
Introduction: from geographies of men to geographies of women and back again?
Pages 15

In this introductory chapter, we sketch an outline of the historical move from geographies written by (and most often about) men, to the feminist critique of gendered power relations in geographical thought and the recent emergence of research on the geographies of masculinities. We offer a summary of different theoretical approaches to the definition of masculinity and explain why, in this book, we focus on spaces of masculinities rather than men. In the final section, we give a brief overview of the structure of the book.
