ABSTRACT

If you can, let your senior aides dictate campaign strategy (with your approval of course). If you can’t keep your hands off, then keep your involvement in campaign strategy out of the public eye. Chances are that by the time the campaign is in high gear (January of the election year), you will be intimately involved in strategy meetings. To the extent possible, however, portray yourself as only marginally interested in campaign details. The citizenry want their president to fulfill the duties of the office, not spend the bulk of his time working toward selfpreservation.
