ABSTRACT

China is a developing country inhabited by a fifth of the world’s population. Coronary heart disease (CHD) used to be rare in China

but this is no longer true. For example, the proportion of CHD among all types of heart disease has climbed from fifth highest in China between 1948 and 1958, to second highest between 1959 and 1971, and to first from 1972 through 1979.
