ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses the important security concepts that apply during the software development, operation, and maintenance processes. Software is defined to include both operating system software (the software that manages the operations of a computer system) and application software (the software that provides functionality for the user, such as word processing programs and games). In the Computer, Systems, and Security Architecture chapter (Chapter 2), the focus was on how the operating system interacts with and controls the hardware and software components.
