ABSTRACT

Rapid advances in the neurobiology of Parkinson’s disease generate great hope of one day preventing this disease. There are increasing numbers of models for environmental causes, including one agent in common use.1 Furthermore, the genetic disorders now known to be associated with Parkinsonism may provide understanding of the biological events leading to the development of Parkinson’s disease, which could lead to early detection and prevention. However, in some ways finding a prevention could be a social and political nightmare, as discussed below.
