ABSTRACT
Lithuanian contemporary dance was not born in a wasteland immediately after the Soviet Union collapsed. The first drops of the spring which later developed into a flowing river of dance broke in the years of Lithuania’s first independence. After World War II those drops could hardly form a flow; it was only in the years of perestroika (after 1985) that they started to fill out, forming a river.
