ABSTRACT
THIS chapter serves to provide a review of the equations and concepts of dy-namical systems. These equations will subsequently be used in later chapters to illustrate the importance of estimation for actual applications in dynamical systems. In particular several systems will be reviewed in this chapter; including spacecraft dynamics, orbital mechanics, aircraft flight dynamics, and vibrational systems. A thorough treatise of these subjects is not possible, and only the fundamental equations and concepts will be reviewed here. The interested reader can pursue these subjects in more depth by studying the many references cited in this chapter.
