ABSTRACT

This chapter is concerned with the questions and challenges posed by doing technoscience as ‘new’ media. The term ‘technoscience’ refers to the irreducibility (connectedness) of science and technology, and I am concerned with the irreducibility (which is not the same as indistinguishability) of science, technology and media. The questions and challenges are both conceptual and methodological, and these are explored below. More implicit in what follows is the reason for doing technoscience as ‘new’ media. The short response is precisely that science, technology and media are becoming – more manifestly, more complexly – connected.
