ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses many of the techniques and approaches of financial services organizations with plenty of evidence of specialisation, centralization, decentralization, delegation and the various different types of organizational structure or variations on these themes. It concentrates on three specific areas that there is real evidence of approaches to organizational design that are aimed at meeting the challenges posed to managers in the financial services sector by the external environment. The areas are: the wide-ranging development of internet and telephone-based call, contact and service centres, product or market organization structures and centralization of decision-making. On the practical side, think about the importance and significance of specialization, centralization, delegation, line and staff, communication and co-operation and the different variations on type of structure, bearing in mind the need for flexibility in a changing environment. The important functions of a manager are Things like planning, organizing, leading, motivating, co-ordinating, problem-solving, communication and controlling.
