ABSTRACT

This chapter provides some introduction to the challenges inherent in managing substantial organizational change. It examines some of the changes experienced by the financial services sector and the reasons for these changes. The chapter also examines the relevance of the organizational culture and its potential influence on the successful implementation of change. It demonstrates some practical experience through the example of a major UK clearing bank. The chapter also demonstrates the difficulties of implementing organizational change, and considers some of the better-known systematic approaches that have been put forward in an effort to try to make that change implementation process easier to manage. It explores the importance of organizational culture in the management of organizational change, implements programmes of organizational change, and looking explains the use of project management as a method for managing such change.
