ABSTRACT

Think back, as best you can, to the classrooms or centers you knew as a small child. Try to recall the sounds and smells that greeted you as you entered the rooms. Do you remember the look and feel of the sun coming through the windows? What hung on the walls? What elements of your classrooms called out to you? Do you remember how the desks, tables, and other furniture were placed in any of those early classrooms and where you fi t, or didn’t fi t, into the overall design? Think about your teachers. Were they approachable and kind? As a young child did you feel welcomed, safe, and important? Do you remember your classmates as being friendly, helpful, and supportive? What emotions are elicited from these memories?
