ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses methods that used for the purpose of analyzing data from single studies and describes statistical methods for quantifying results across studies. In group design research, there are clear gold standards with regard to design and well-accepted criteria for effects in both single studies and for groups of studies. Randomization tests have been suggested as appropriate for analysis of single case designs. In 2005, Exceptional Children published a special issue on quality indicators for different research methodologies. At this time, several leaders in the field who were experts in single case methodology suggested quality indicators for Single Case Research Design (SCRD), and guidelines to be considered when determining whether a practice or procedure was evidence based. A specific application of hierarchical linear modeling, growth curve modeling, has been suggested as an analysis method appropriate for SCRD data, in addition to visual analysis.
