ABSTRACT

Describing people, whether in text or with audio or video, is central to character development. Your readers want characters whom they can see and connect with. It may seem simple to just use video to show a character head to toe, but cultivating an eye for physical description that can translate across media is a valuable tool and a great exercise for boiling down description to only those details that you need to tell the story. Collecting great physically descriptive b-roll of a subject—the video that’s not just them being interviewed—is parallel to the choice of physical details with the written word.
