ABSTRACT

We are aware that one single chapter that groups together both physical and cognitive impairments will likely be inadequate for all of these populations. However, we are also clear that the differently-abled are often neglected in discussions of diversity and marginalization. Therefore, the purpose of this chapter is to address some of the unique challenges of clients with disabilities and how these disabilities might impact the assessment process. For our purposes, we will address the unique challenges of those with cognitive disabilities, including attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), specific learning disabilities (SLD), and traumatic brain injury (TBI), and those with physical disabilities, including visual and hearing impairments and mobility impairments.
