ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts of key concepts discussed in proceeding chapters of this book. The book provides a modified infant observation approach which included several innovations: the use of interview and observations; the use of audio recording; the employment of a comparative category coding approach. Reflecting on the use of such an approach to thinking about professional practice, The book proves reasoned judgements about teacher's emotional experiences of dealing with uncertainty in the particularly uncertain context of working with children with autism and new technology. Applying psychoanalytic techniques, particularly the use of countertransference to identify teacher's emotional states, did in itself provoke uncertainty within author role as a researcher. He was aware that the drawing about the subjects emotional experience were potentially open to criticism as part of the ongoing debate about how psychoanalytic techniques can and should be applied as part of social research methods.
