ABSTRACT
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the most visible and lasting institutional achievement of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and considered to be the United Nations’ “leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, that promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and that serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment” (UNEP 1997: §2).
