ABSTRACT

In this the final chapter of the book, our aim is to pull together the material from the previous chapters and set out what we think the next steps are. We begin by collating the key lessons from the five case studies that have been presented in Chapters 8–12. This includes comparing the similarities and differences across the cases, in order to identify useful insights into the facilitator role and the facilitation process within different contextual settings. We will also reflect on what the case study experiences tell us in relation to the revised i-PARIHS (integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services) framework and the facilitation model that we have presented in this book. Finally, we will address the question of ‘what happens next’. For readers of the book, this will include thinking about where you are starting in terms of your own facilitation journey, whether as novice facilitators about to facilitate a new implementation project, or more experienced facilitators wanting to develop your knowledge and skills further and prepare others to take on the facilitator role. From our own perspective, we will reflect on our journey in writing this book and what we think the future challenges are in terms of ongoing research and development into implementation and facilitation in healthcare.
