ABSTRACT
We have examined political questions and answers in the media context and we shall now look at questions and answers in parliament. The main concern of this chapter is to explore the characteristics of this particular genre of democratic discourse, with the aim of extending our understanding of what sort of verbal behaviour is in play and how it works.1 The emphasis is on the micro-structure of the language viewed primarily as politically significant interaction among individuals.
