ABSTRACT

In this chapter, we will consider the long-term outlook for people affected by fragile X. There is a great deal to consider. The question arises whether gazing into the future is really helpful. However, it is vital to remember that, while we can make generalisations about outcomes being more or less likely in fragile X, we cannot say for sure what will happen in the case of any individual. But we can advise that certain problems are more or less likely to occur, to get worse, or even to improve. Clinicians try to give pointers to what parents and others should watch out for, and what they might do about it.
