ABSTRACT

This essay is about a nonesuch cultural fact that accidentally became a determinant defining the course and diagnosing the condition of culture in Lithuania. As one cultural media suggested, this cultural fact divided the Lithuanian world of culture into two stages: before and after. After the event, the sphere of culture was thought over as being functionally much more diverse than it had been regarded before; from then on, the process of art creation has been observed vigilantly, and every artistic move has been constricted by a bureaucratic apparatus.
