ABSTRACT
The theme of this chapter as well as of the whole conference is elegantly summarized in the following quotation: “In this highly technical world, employee working conditions are of increasing importance to companies and the pressure placed on them to provide acceptable working environments means that potential employee health risks cannot be overlooked. Electromagnetic radiation fields and their effects on humans are of great interest at present because of the increasingly large number of people using visual display terminals and mobile phones, both in the workplace and at home. This is a potentially emotive area but everyone agrees that there needs to be further research and dissemination of knowledge. This has particular relevance to the health of occupants in buildings (From the conference program organized by Abacus Communications in conjunction with the University of Reading and the University of Bristol).
