ABSTRACT
Whether you are preparing a presentation, an essay or a dissertation, it is crucial that before you start writing it, you know what you are going to say. It is also important that what you are going to say is interesting and intelligent, which is why you need to think carefully and creatively and draw up a plan of what you are going to say. Most of what I say in this chapter is based on the assumption that you are producing a plan for a piece of written work rather than a presentation. Very similar skills are required for planning a presentation. I will mention some differences in Chapter 8.
