ABSTRACT

In recent years, interest in entrepreneurship has grown dramatically. Governments realized that entrepreneurial firms are a major source of economic growth, jobs, and competitive advantage, and have been trying to form an environment conducive to their formation and prosperity. Large, established firms came to view entrepreneurial firms as a source of innovation to be tapped. Individuals discovered that entrepreneurship was a way to fulfill one’s dreams and realize opportunities unavailable from traditional employment. The rising interest in entrepreneurship occurred in tandem with an accelerated globalization of the business environment (see Chapter 1 ), heightening awareness of the entrepreneurial, funding, and marketing opportunities available beyond national borders .
