ABSTRACT

Access to land is a key factor in the ability to practise farming. Getting hold of land is hardly something that goes without saying for the many people who are engaged in farming around the world. Matters of access to land are on the one hand rather concrete, for instance a certain farmer's difficulty in safeguarding his/ her long-term access to an area. In broader perspectives land rights are highly decisive for how food is produced; for how farming resources are used; for rural societies at large; and for national and global food security.
