HOWARD’S REASON FOR QUOTING BLAKE IS OBVIOUS. POET, PAINTER and engraver, William Blake (1757-1827) hated the effects of the Industrial Revolution and looked forward to the establishment of a new Jerusalem ‘in England’s green and pleasant land’.
