ABSTRACT

In recent decades, the rapid rise in sexual activity in young people has aroused public concern. The sexual health of adolescents in Hong Kong is threatened by increasingly open, liberal and permissive attitudes to sexual matters. More alarmingly, unsafe sex and risk-taking sexual behaviour is increasingly common among Hong Kong adolescents. Consequently, the rates of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and the potential risk of HIV infection have been on the increase in recent years. This chapter highlights the changes in sexual attitude and behaviour among adolescents that endanger their sexual health. It also discusses the development of sex education and strategies to safeguard the sexual health of adolescents in Hong Kong.
