ABSTRACT

Thus far this book has focused primarily on young mothers. Whilst we have explored many of the difficulties young mothers face, it is important to recognise that, for every young mother, there is a father. Contrary to common perception, the men who father children with young mothers are generally only slightly older than the mothers. These young fathers, particularly young, single fathers who do not cohabit with the child’s mother, have suffered what can only be described as very ‘bad press’ in recent years.
