Extending the analysis further in this direction, it is obvious that the content of responses to the talk of others is another aspect of politeness behaviour. Agreeing with others, confirming their opinions and assertions, as illustrated by Oliver in Example 1 and Sal and Pat in Example 2 is supportive and positively polite behaviour (Brown and Levinson 1987: 112; [Chapter 22]).
