ABSTRACT
Very steep slopes, frequency of violent weather, and ongoing tectonic activity, these characteristics may lead to the perception that mountains are dangerous places in which to live and travel. Earthquakes, landslides, rockfalls, ice-and snow-avalanches, and floods, these too are part of the mountain image.
