ABSTRACT

A magical month, December lends itself to celebration. Take inspiration from the changing landscape and think about how our ancestors might have marked this transition. Trees feature in many festivals. They represent an aspect of nature that is timeless and they also reflect the changes in the seasons in a visual way. They're a solid skeletal structure, from which you can build a picture or a story and give it different strands. Think about the way the branches grow and stretch and how the roots also spread out to anchor the tree to the earth. Use this as a way to plan your activities, starting with the bare bones of an idea and building upon this by adding colour and texture. Most importantly, have fun and encourage the children to see and experience the wonder all around them!
