What can we learn from listening to girls and boys talking about their play?

Listening to what children have to say provides an insight into their concerns, how they are making sense of the world and how they are positioning themselves and others. It is very apparent from conversations with young children that they are conscious of gender, and as practitioners we need to be sensitive to and acknowledge how children’s ideas about gender impact on how children position themselves and are positioned by others in the early years setting.
