ABSTRACT

Citizenship Education, in part, aimed to address government concerns over declining levels of political participation and civil engagement; however, it is evident that a universal, 'one size fits all' approach to the teaching of the subject area will risk solidifying the status quo and reinforcing marginalisation. This chapter highlights the need to place diversity at the heart of Citizenship Education and inclusive teaching practice. It also highlights the centrality of addressing diversity within a context of Citizenship Education. The chapter traces the value of embracing diversity rather than something to be 'managed'; to highlight that the Majorite 'colour-blind' approach to the delivery of education does not ensure equality or meet the needs of a diverse student body. There have been countless terms that have been used in.
