ABSTRACT

To say this is by no means to deny that natures order must play a central role in the knowledge system of any culture that manages to survive for even a day. And even if international sciences cannot achieve absolute cultural neutrality, clearly many of their elements regularly do achieve a kind of relative neutrality and autonomy. International sciences obviously have developed effective strategies for downplaying the influence of many of the kinds of values and interests of their eras on the results of research. Feminist science studies have made important contributions to raising and advancing thought about such issues. Around the world women have called for more accurate accounts of our bodies, environmental hazards to us, nature s pharmacological resources, sustainable agriculture, energy, and water supplies, and other aspects of nature where the prevailing sciences have not yet fully responded to women’s scientific and technological concerns.
