ABSTRACT
The fables of Sarah and Hannah, Mary and Elizabeth belong to a different mystery cycle, another moment in the order of word and flesh. In these, the coming of the new covenant is accomplished by filling an empty womb with speech. Sarah greets the new order with the laughter of Demeter; Elizabeth greets it with the speech of revelation.
