The 20th-century movement toward music as an expression ofnational character found in Alberto Ginastera an eloquentspokesman. His works reflect the Latinization of urban Argentina in their indebtedness to the French Impressionists and Stravinsky’s Le sacre du printemps. Even more pronounced was his sense of nationalism, which led him toward music of the gaucho and all the traditions associated with that hard-riding herdsman of the pampas.
