ABSTRACT

Asylum seeking and refugee young people1 live extraordinary lives. Many will have experienced persecution or the persecution of their families, others will have experienced a terrifying journey across thousands of miles in the hands of people-smugglers or traffickers. When they arrive in the UK, their journey to safety and security will have only just begun, as they must then start the process of integration and seek inclusion in UK society. It would be fair to assume that policy and practice in the UK would be designed to ease this final journey. It would also be wrong.
