ABSTRACT

In recent years, possible applications of vegetable fibres in the production of building materials and components for low cost housing have been the subject-matter of numerous studies and investigations. The mechanical characteristics and physical properties of these materials have been examined together with their ductility and the durability of the matrices, mostly consisting of cement reinforced with different kinds of natural fibres, such as sisal, coconut, jute, flax, bamboo, wood, etc.
