ABSTRACT

The infratemporal fossa is the space located deep to the ramus of the mandible. Further reading of the anatomy of this region is available from Hollingshead,1 Berkovitz and Moxham,2 Gray’s Anatomy3 and Lang.4 Together with the temporal fossa, pterygoid processes and maxillary tuberosity, the infratemporal fossa has been thought of by some anatomists as part of a ‘masticatory muscle compartment’ or ‘masticatory space’.4
