ABSTRACT

Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) has demonstrated success in both diagnostic and interventional settings.1-7 The new American Heart Association classification of coronary atherosclerosis pathology can be evaluated using IVUS, and studies of atheroma regression and progression may also be performed.8 Serial IVUS studies have been used to examine the natural history of the restenosis process and to identify both adaptive and pathological remodelling.9 IVUS also allows quantitative measurement for calculation of plaque volume.10
