ABSTRACT
Notation is a visual representation of musical sounds and/or of how these sounds should be reproduced. It is found in numerous music cultures all over the world, in their culture-specific forms. Notation performs diverse functions and roles, depending on its overall aim and the musical values predominant in its cultural context.
