• The doctor versus King Canute: from Georg Groddeck to family therapy
Sebastian Kraemer (BA, MBBS, MRCP, MRCPsych) is a consultant psychiatrist in the Child and Family Department of the Tavistock Clinic and in the Paediatric Department of the Whittington Hospital. In the 1960s, after a first degree in philosophy, Dr Kraemer was trained in medicine and paediatrics at Guy's Hospital where the late Dr Ronald MacKeith introduced him to the complexities of psychosomatic disease. He gained general psychiatric experience at the Maudsley Hospital, after which he went to the Tavistock Clinic, where he stayed to learn child psychiatry, individual and family therapy. He has been teaching at the London Institute of Family Therapy since 1979.
