ABSTRACT
Chronic heart failure is now recognized as an increasing problem worldwide. While this may be due in part to increased awareness and improved diagnosis of the condition, other factors such as ageing of populations in Western countries, the epidemiological transition from infectious to degenerative diseases and urbanization in developing countries have contributed importantly to the increase.
